Geek Girl and her first solo convention,

Starting to feel the excitement of Fan Expo 2013 which is now only 4 sleeps away. VIP pass procured and in hand, photo ops booked and paid for, time off work, and costume ready..ish.

OK, costume is not really cosplay, I'll be wearing a purple ball gown, (bridesmaid dress) but maybe if I find a nice steampunk accessory or two I can pull it off for Sat. I had at first thought of Lwaxana Troi but Star Trek isn't as popular as it once was and I don't have any 80's jewellery anymore. Hat/fascinator and/or gloves should do it...I have a cameo.

This will be my first time going all four days, on top of the first time I'm going on my own. Scary and liberating at the same time but thanks to Wil Wheaton's impassioned address at a previous convention about how we all are just people to love things enough to gather and celebrate them.  So here I go, when last year I missed it because no one wanted to go with me.

I've mapped out the first two days already and I'll figure out the other two days asap. Although I've been to conventions before, It's always been on the Sunday and most of the time had been spent in the dealers room and Autographs. I figure considering I'm there for 4 days and I have the VIP pass (you don't want to know what that cost) I should really maximize what that means. 30 hrs reg 33.5 hrs VIP.

Although I have the advance entrance with my VIP pass, I imagine there may be delays getting in, 2 years ago there was a miscommunication with security and the VIP entrance wasn't being honoured they also kept people in line for over 4 hours before notifying that they had been sold out all that time and couldn't let in any more people. (even for people who had prepaid). I'm sure they've ironed out some kinks but with the addition of the extra building I expect some challenges and will simply get there early.

Thurs night Joe Dante will be screening his picture the 'Burbs at the Bell Light Box through Cinemacabe. Might also do the Rue Morgue Shocktail party on Friday.

So far, as I pour through the schedule I see that there is way more going on than I can possibly get to, so I'll have to prioritize. I want Walking Dead autographs, to see Norman every day he's there, My photo ops on Sat, Tony Moore, Todd Mcfarlane, and Max Brooks autographs. Author panels and the rest is gravy. I'd also like to see what authors and artists are in the alley.

When it comes to buying things, with most dealers I'll get business cards and web sites where possible. Walking Dead Lego is a must and any TWD/Zombie action figures of course.
